Maia Kirk, Class of 2022

Maia Kirk, BA English Adolescence Education 2022

Title of senior seminar paper: “Transcendence and Death in Romantic Era Writing”

Parting words and advice:

The English language was my first love; Nothing brings me more comfort and joy than stringing the perfect array of words together.

Being an English Adolescence Education major at The College of Saint Rose has allowed me to delve into even greater capacities of depths of creativity and exploration than I could have ever imagined. I am so proud to be able to share my stories of the ways in which I have furthered both my education, and my appreciation of the English language through college.

If you take the time to work hard and create what is meant to be, it will truly pay off. Nothing is more rewarding than hearing your name called at the graduation commencement ceremony for a degree in something you love. Don’t forget to take advantage of all of the opportunities, clubs, and community service that Saint Rose offers. It will all be worth it.

Post-graduation plans:

Since graduating The College of Saint Rose, I have applied to multiple English teaching jobs in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, where I hope to inspire new generations of students for years to come. I couldn’t possibly be more ecstatic to continue doing what I truly love for the rest of my life, and I am so grateful for every opportunity that has led me to this point.

Gavriella Rutigliano, Class of 2022

Gavriella Rutigliano, BA English, music minor 2022

Title of senior seminar paper: “‘Heaven Help the Fool Who Falls in Love’: The Mutual Destruction of Ophelia and Hamlet.”

Parting words and advice:

I love poetry more than I ever thought I would. Ten pages are less than you think in both reading and writing.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your professors.

Sometimes the best writing you can do is putting your thoughts directly onto the paper. No filter or alteration of any kind.

Post-graduation plans:

I’m honestly still trying to figure out my post-graduation plans, mainly if I’m staying here or going back to Connecticut, but I know I want to work in journalism/the news industry, as a writer and/or TV presenter. I also want to work in the music industry, both as a singer and music journalist.
